There was definitely no "dashing through the snow" for Jim and I this holiday season, but we did some diving on Ko Haa, snorkeling at Sharks Point, what fun it is that Bob and Sally came to Thailand for a few nights. OH!
We had a blast with Bob and Sally, who came out to stay with us for a few days. Sally learned how to scuba dive and Bob acquired a monkey on his back. Hopefully they will do a guest blog here to tell you more about their adventures.
This is the first Christmas I've spent away from my family and I did miss spending time with them, especially the tree decorating and baking cookies with my sister. I wished we could transport ourselves to watch my little twin little cousins and Jim's nephew play under the Christmas tree.
Jim and I made the best our of our Christmas by spending the holiday on Ko Phagnan Island with our new Denver friends that we met on our trek in Laos. While we yearned for the traditional holiday feast, we were still happy to eat pad thai and som tam before heading to a half moon party hosted by Santa. This was definitely not a milk and cookies party - we were entertained by fireworks, foam, fire dancers and florescent paint.
For New Years, we we watched fireworks and lanterns fill the sky and compete with the light of the full moon. The type of fireworks shot off here would have required a license in the states, but were easily acquired at the 7-11 down the street. After the somewhat scary firework show, we bought a lantern and started off 2010 by making a wish and sending it up to the stars for good luck. The lanterns looked like new constellations in the sky - it was a truly magical.
Wishing all of you a healthy and happy 2010!!

ReplyDeleteJohn - the 7-11s here are all over! It's like a little piece of home is always with us. I never need to wonder where we can get our yogurts in the morning. Jim's addicted to their cantaloupe juice (it replaces the slushies here).
ReplyDeleteThanks Tori : ) It was my first Christmas with Jim. Although it was tough to be without my family in Florida I was with my new hubby-to-be : )
